Caffé Travels

A cup with my love

Madrid

The first stop on the journey

I didn’t get the chance to eat in Madrid, however she did go with me to visit the Bernabeau. This is the pitch that Real Madrid plays on, the team of her boyfrined, Christiano. They wouldn’t let me on to the pitch so I got the shot from the small patch of turf that encircles the real grass.

Dinner in Burgos

I missed her the first night in Spain.

I had dinner in the outdoor seating section of a wonderful restaurant in a square in the old town section of Burgos. I thought of her while I drank my Café con Leché, and ate Ox sirloin with handmade potato chips and roasted peppers.

Breakfast in Burgos

I woke up on day two to enjoy a fine selection of fruit, pastries and meats. I started with a soft boiled egg, I had never had one before and the special egg holder made me feel special. I have only seen these eaten in movies. Wanted to try and eat it out of the shell. Café con Leche, in America this is a Latté, is a must with breakfast for me. I did not konw what types of salumies and and cheeses I had to choose from, so I just tried some of each. I found them all to be delightful. The fresh mozzarella and tomato was something that I thought was an appetizer before dinner, apparently in Spain it is a breakfast food. So fresh and so tasty. I could get used to this. Then there was this block of thick gelatin that I has no idea what it was. So in the effort of learning new things, I tried it. It turned out to be a block of fruit jam that was thick enough to stand up on it’s own. Super flavorful and tasty. I ate it by itself because I did not get any type of bread when I filled my plate.

A shot of espresso shared with my love is always a wonderful start to my day. A staple of mine for every morning both abroad and at home.

Bacon is very different in spain (I think that goes for all of Europe). It is much softer and tastes a little fresher. I don’t know what they do differently but it seems to work well.

This was a melon that I had never seen before. White meat, no seeeds with the rind of a watermelon. It was fantastic! I asked what it was. The waitress could not tell me the name so she brought me one uncut to see.
